Fan Art & New animation =)

Hey guys =)

Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while,
i've been to Japan and back.

But I'm now back in action =P

I've started a short animation for my younger brother, he makes music and is currently studying music engineering.
You can find some of his works here : Vigour & Vibe

And i'm just doing a quick 12 second animation to put to his 'sample package'. So that people get an idea of his style of music =)

This is the storyboard,

and of course some character designing,

It took us a while to get colours right, but this is the character we ultimately decided on:

These are some of the heads designs we came up with for the character:

And just a few of the hundreds of colour sheets i did until we finally decided on one hahah

And now for the fan art :

Quick Post

I'm trying to cut down the time i take to do a piece of art ~

I thought i'd start by checking what my capabilities are in one day's worth of work.
This is what i got ~
It's not the best thing i've ever done, but considering how much time i usually take to do a piece ~ i'm proud =)

Until next time ~

Trying out a new style  ~
It's a lot quick and easier then what i normally do ~ and seems to be quite effective for character designing =)

New valuable art sites and a finished piece.

Hey everyone,

I finally finished this drawing :

It was inspired by this photo : http://pbs.twimg.com/media/BezlNYICIAEldfG.jpg:large
I've decided to call it "Untitled - 01" because no matter how much I looked at it, I couldn't decide what to call it.
I've also got a time - lapse of it :

So i was drawing this drawing, and I got frustrated at my own lack of skill and ability,
So i started a hunt through the depths of the internet to find some more information as well as steps i can take to future advance my skills (without it costing me my entire life saving)
and this is what i found :

An online school called CGMA.
It looks pretty good, although I personally have not tried any of the classes.

http://2d.cgmasteracademy.com/programs/

But then I went and found this blog :

http://conceptartdrive.blogspot.com.au

He has done some of those classes, and he also shares some really good advice and experience.  I would definitely recommend this blog.

I also found this page:
http://www.digitalartistdaily.com/blog/2012/11/how-to-create-a-skin-colour-palette/
that gives an awesome suggestions as to how to find your skin-tone pallet.

Also, on Facebook I stumbled across this link :
http://www.digitalartistdaily.com/blog/category/tips-tutorials/
It has some good tutorials =P

So have a look at some of these links, i think they are worth the time =)

Until next time ,

Back in Action

Hey everyone,
sorry for such a long break, my computer's hard drive died on me (the day after i did a backup - THANK GOD.)

anyway, I haven't been doing nothing ~ i've done a few live drawing sketches and studied a bit of anatomy and ways of drawing ~ so i'll only leave a few sketches.

Because i've literally only just had my computer for 7 min now ~ so I'm gonna go draw =D
yay photoshop ~!!

Until next time ~

New Drawing

Hey Everyone

Sorry for the "inactive-ness" ~
my brother is doing a remix of Lily Allen's song "Sheezus" for a competition ~

So i did a piece of cover art for him =)

It's the first i've been able to do in a while ~ and i've only been able to do it cause i'm home sick with a swollen throat

Im quite happy with it ~ although i know i've still got a fairs way to go before I'm as good as i'd like to be =P
but i think this drawing turned out well for me ^^

Took me 2 days all up (spread over a week)

Pixar, Sydney and catch up ~

So before i get onto the exciting Pixar seminar i went to ~
let me quickly present the new drawing i've started :

Now onto Pixar ~

About a week ago, I went to Sydney to attend a 3 day Pixar seminar.

Although, i only attended 2 out of the 3 days (the story pass) because that is what i wanted to focus on.
I learnt SOOO much and I recommend it to ANYONE interested in animation. It was brilliant.

I will now be starting my own story writing, hopefully for a feature, and then i'll make a short for the feature and try to get funding ~ that's my plan

Day one was with Matthew Luhn :

We were provided with a boo let that had basically the entire powerpoint printed out already,
Which gave us time to focus on the subject and interaction rather then furiously taking notes. It was good =P

It also made me realise, how easy story writing is. We as people simply complicate things wayyyyy to much and therefore think we can't do it. But its no where near as hard as it seems =P

The last day was with Bobbett Buster :

For this lecture, we weren't provided with any notes. But there was so much information that all throughout the hall there was furious note taking.
It was basically, taking what we learnt on day 1, and then going more in-depth.
It was brilliant, i learnt so much.

I went with my boyfriend to this pixar seminar, but unfortunately we were only in sydney for the three days so we didn't get to do much sight-seeing. Even so, we managed to get at least a little bit of sightseeing in ~

here are some pictures of sydney =P

Storytelling and Art

So in order to get a better foot in writing my script i've been doing some research in opinions and such on storytelling/writing and i've found a few interesting things :

“…We as humans try to find the relevance, the connections between.
And so, story telling is what a story teller does. He will take pieces of information and then control the delivery of that. So they withhold some information, reveal some others.”

“… every writer should define that by themselves. Ofcourse, the audience sometimes defins what a story is. Depending on what medium the story is for, for example, film, is it for children or for adults…”

“and I think the best storywriters understand what the audience want. Like what pieces they are trying to connect and what work they are doing, so that not everything is laid out. But they leave these strategic gaps so that we are almost forced to dive deeper into the story to find those connections.”

---

Structure change – Orality to Literacy
17th/18th century –
  • more introverted,
  • more individualistic
(becomes more interwoven with the person – even the fictional stories)
Writing started out as a ‘group’. Meaning the story was about our history, the country as a whole.
now its becoming more and more about the individual ‘I am a writer and this is my story’.

In the 19th century it was more about quantity
20th century it was about destruction of the structure.
With thins like Nouveau Roman (literature) and Nouvelle Vague (film)
And we are only now coming back to more biographical stories

Epic Oral Telling -> Literace/ Writing -> Letterpress / Book Printing -> Film (lumer brothers) -> Tv/Radio -> Digital Data/ Computers -> Youtube.

In other news, the drawing i was working on :

I'm not sure that i'm happy with it =/

Improvement ~

So I'm starting to push myself to really improve and understand the human body. To make it easier for me to animate and concept characters.

Here is a sneak peak for the drawing I'm currently working on =)

it's taking a lot longer then i originally planned because i'm pushing myself to try and be better (and I'm busy)

I've been drawing every single day that i get the chance, rather then once a week (because it's easier to get into a habit if it's "whenever I can" rather then "every now and again")

Here are some pieces i've been doing since the last update ~

Going from Newest to Oldest ~

1 min -

2 min -

5 min -

And lastly, I've started (just today) to practice drawing my hand....
It's really hard.....

This hand-drawing exercise is definitely the thing i want to see most improvement from.
I've already realise that i make my hands too stubby and not long enough ~ slender and elegant i guess ~ and instead I'm making them too short

Drawing~

So  I've started shading in this piece ~ i might bring it up to be a proper finished piece of art =P

Also, I've tried a life sketching again today.
Just a quick one though (19min all up), and i feel completely out of swing with this.
I've gotten to comfortable going slowly and perfecting it. Which, obviously, is just not possible with life sketching.

Oh well, I'll get back into swing soon. Everyone's got to start somewhere =P

A few 2 min pieces  and one 5 min piece ~

And lastly,
I've realised that recently images seem to be appearing on the corner of my pages ~
perhaps it's time to start another hat adventure ~ =D animation idea time =P

That's all for now,
Until next time
