These Holidays

Hey everyone,

So i thought, the best way to start off the new semester's worth of blog's was by covering what i've done during these holidays. 

So i've started modelling my "Guardian character" ~ 

In terms of his head, i'm almost done ~ except for the hair,

I'm struggling a bit with the hair and i think i will probably do some research and ask for some advice before i finish of the hair. 

I also did a drawing for my brother, seeing as he's been asking for one for at least half a year now ~ he gave me a small picture of a rabbit wearing weird clothes and asked me to make the rabbit human so here it is ~

I also did some storyboarding for the title's project ~ there's about 14 pages in total but i'll just show you the first page of each idea ~

My one and only 'personal' drawing of these holidays (and its not finished xD)

She's 18th century, meets magic, meets the future ~

I've come to realise that my two favourite things are ~ the renaissance period of art and the 18th century and it seems to impact everything i do.

So hopefully, i'll be able to, one day, mix these two together and make an amazing feature length film =P

Anyways, the last thing i did these holidays ~ is begin design the re-design of my website.

short story progress ~

So i have many things to share with you today,

Lets start by shocking you ~

This is my background design ->

am i crazy? I'd like to think so ~ especially considering i'm an artist.

but no, I've actually already got most of this built in 3D thanks to the past me who decided that i wanted to try make a fancy cathedral hallway ~
and now that i've done the cupboard, i only have to make the tree ~ and the texture and light ~ thats it =P

So this background will be (hopefully) simple ~

Next is my character line-up.

I don't think i've shown anyone what the girl character looks like ~ and there is a reason for that ~
I'm not happy with her yet.  I'm thinking i will probably make her more of a tomboy ~ short sleeved shirt with cargo pants? i'm not sure, but i don't like her the way she is now xP

And then there's my story board ~ It's too long and not completed to a level that i'm happy with so i'll only post part of it. 

the whole story is too long to complete by the end of the year so i'm thinking about cutting it to this part -> 

Next is my mood board ~ but I realise now that i've probably gone a bit overboard in that ~ i've done a mood board for the over-arching movie (which would be a 2.5 - 3 hour feature length) haha

but these are all relevant to the scene i'm thinking about because she is waking up in an unknown world ~ and i do want there to be a sense of insecurity ~ i'm thinking, maybe a lack of music? or the sounds have an occasional flat/sharp note so that it throws off that sense of 'perfectness/serenity' 

Lastly is my 20 essential expressions that we did ~ 

Obviously i did mine for the Guardian ~

Assignments and Video Catch up

So this blog entry is really more about updating you guys about everything that i've finished before i go and finish my last three assignments xD

So i finished my stylised Prop ~

It's the cupboard my Guardian will be getting out of =P

Also, I finished the Hard Surface Modelling assignment a little while ago, it was based on a whale diving.

Lastly, recently we had interviews for a chance to get a spot in a  company for work experience. 

For that we were asked to make a 'demo reel' of sorts, that had our top three animations in it ~ this is what i chose to do : 

I decided to go with, one - 3D character animation, one - 3D Modelling and one - 2D animation - just to cover all the area's.

Animated Titles Pitch

So today we gave a pitch to the film students about possible title animations and ideas.
Seeing as now that the pitches have been done and everyone is aware of each other's ideas I thought i'd share what I've done for the pitches.

Also, any feedback would be greatly appreciated, especially if you were at the presentation ~ you know, if i handled the questions ok, if i should have prepared more etc.
After all, this was our first pitch to people outside of our class.

Our group pitched for 3 films however,
I did storyboards and talked about only two films.
The first I presented was 'Error 37' so I thought, in this blog I'll start the opposite way (because i can =P)

'A Change of Heart' I believe is still debating their name but changing the title is very easy so I went ahead and added it into my examples and ideas.

I started off with doing one big drawing of a really human heart, added some textures and colours and a title. The whole thing didn't take more than 15 min ~ but deciding on font always takes me a while ~ and i always alter the spacing between letters manually afterwards ~ so overall it probably took me about half an hour ~ I had great fun making it

So what i did was just a quick sketch of the human heart, and then added some cool coffee stain textures and water smudge textures. Then i added colours and tone, followed by a canvas texture over the top.

it felt a bit empty with just the heart and text so i added some light beams, and i found that it works a lot better. Its quite symbolic of the better and worse in that, you can head toward the light/good or away from it - and at the same time it feels like the heart is 'in something' as if it were still in a human body.

I then changed it into a rough storyboard with a few examples of titles 

(I blurred out the names for safety - they weren't blurred out before)

and just so that my idea makes more sense, i wanted to do something similar to this alcohol ad, in that we follow a line, that leads us to credits and as it finishes the texture comes in, we zoom out and reveal the title -

The second Film I pitched for was Error 37 - 

My idea was to do a stylised, motion graphics title sequence ~ because the director said he much prefers traditional titles (white on black) so i tried to make something that is a bit stylised. However i'm not entirely happy with what came out on the storyboard but i think i supported my idea with the other examples i gave. 

Technically speaking, it probably would have been more appropriate to do the graphics in illustrator or flash, but i find i much prefer photoshop so thats what i used haha

Non-Futuristic Whale Ship

So If you can remember ~ i made a hard-surface ship based on a whale ~
Well, i've done another one, but its not hard-surface modelling =D~!

This time is just plain fantasy =D

Also I'm still having a hard time with the blog header if anyone knows what the problem is ~ please let me know xD

Title Help ~

So i don't know whats going on with my title for my blog ~
For some reason it doesn't want to be transparent anymore and adds a weird black filling.

So for now i've taken it down, and left the default title but if anyone knows anything that could help ~ please let me know

The colour Guardian and his cupboard . . .

Hey everyone,

So i've done a few drawings ~
Both of which are about my short story 'The Eye of Gyron'
and I was hoping to get opinion's and comments on both of them.

The first is my Guardian character,
now, I know there are two ~ and the only difference is the saturation, because for some reason when I was at tafe, the colours were nicely saturated but when i opened it up at home, it was all pretty much grey. So I've posted two versions ~ because i don't know what they look like on your screen's.

So i'm sorry if one is extremely overly saturated or under saturated haha

A bit about the Guardian ~

My main reference was Johnny Depp and his multiple characters like the Mad Hatter ~ 

I then just made him more Gaudy and Flamboyant.

However, it has come out quite like Charlie Chaplin and thats probably because Johnny Depp actually bases some of his acting from Chaplin. 

This character is meant to be a classic archetype of the 'trickster' hence the Jester's hat on his shoulder. 

He also happens to be a version of Arc Angle Michael, which I've hinted at a few times in his costume design and it will be hinted at even more in the setting. 

For example, the badge on his shoulder is a sword surrounded by flames - which is an iconic symbol of Michael. 

Another example is, the cuff links have the 'sigil' of Michael (I put a link to the image at the bottom of the post). 

But I also wanted to integrate an element of the 1800's and that's also why he is dressed in that manner. 

As for the floral decoration and the lace on the end of his sleeve's are really just because I wanted him to be Flamboyant, Gaudy, and slightly odd/mysterious. 

There are so many different opinions and stories about Arc Angel Michael ~ all of which, inspire stories in me ~ so i could talk about this character for hours ~ but I'll stop for now.

Why is it there? because you're in a world that likes to confuse people and leave them wondering for fun =P
