Artwork

Just a quick post this time ~

So with the upcoming Interviews for a spot in a company for work experience ~ i've decided to go through all the work i've done this year and last year.

One of the ones I found was a very early drawing of what my Guardian character could look like, and i decided to put in the extra effort and finish it,

and this is what it came out as ~

As i drew it, I liked the character more and more, so I will probably design the character similar to this, but simpler ~ because its too complicated of a character for me to successfully model and animate within the time frame =P

Anyways
Until Next time

  1. I see the Chaplin connection, Ariane.

What (who) else have you used as reference?

    1. I can see where you are coming from with the resemblance to Chaplin ~

Although my mum had shown me pictures of Chaplin when i was younger, i never really took interest so it didn't even pop into mind while drawing this character xD

I was really just referencing Johnny Depp and his multiple characters like the Mad Hatter ~
and then I took that and wanted to make him a bit more gaudy and flamboyant haha =P

But Depp actually said, in one of his interviews, that Chaplin was an inspiration to him, and that his acting mixes some of Chaplin's personality into it.
So thats probably why haha =P

But this character is meant to be a 'jokester version' of Arc Angle Michael and so i've added quite a few things in there that point to that.

For example, the badge on his shoulder is a sword surrounded by flames - which is an iconic symbol of Michael
and the buttons on his Jacket cuff's have the 'sigil' of Michael (i put the link down the bottom to the photo)

But I also wanted to bring in an element of the 1800's and his classic archetype of trickster, so I gave him a suit with a jester's hat on it.

the floral decoration and the lace on the end of his sleeve's are really just because I wanted him to be flamboyant and odd/mysterious ~ and thats the same reason why he gets out of a waste-high cupboard and never answers your questions in a straight forward manner =P

  2. Archangel Michael is certainly one of the most interesting angels, appearing in all of the scriptures of the Middle East and in countless pieces of literature and art. (If you're interested in beings of that order, I thoroughly recommend the BBC series "Neverwhere" based on Neil Gaiman's fantasy world of London-underground. The Angel Islington features strongly in it. I will not say more, it would give too much away.)

So I fully understand your desire to develop a hero (or antihero) who borrows elements from so many interesting characters (not all of them angelic, but that's fine). It makes for a powerful character.

And, thanks to Peter Parker, we now know that with great power comes great responsibility.

So I guess, Ariane, what I'm saying is that you now bear the great responsibility of making this powerful character really do something extraordinarily wonderful.

    No pressure :)

    1. yeah ~ no pressure haha

No, in all honesty, i purposely wanted to make him a strong character and i'll put in the effort to 'bear the responsibility' and make him as amazing as I imagine in my head =P

Just like how I am putting the effort in to make an equally strong script =P
